A Coat of Crimson Velvet... by RivisIndigoEmporium A Coat of Crimson Velvet... by RivisIndigoEmporium
Finding a pattern that I felt suited him was a quest by itself. I rummaged through scores of boxes, hardly satisfied with what I found. Upon finally reaching the end of my wits I elected to draft my own pattern for him. It wasn’t difficult – but it was painstaking. Never before had I felt so adamant about something – or so determined to get it right the first time. I couldn’t tolerate the idea of requesting his presence for a fitting – I had every reason to suspect that the occasion would go horribly awry within five minutes of my attempts to work with his figure.

The waistcoat took the least amount of labor – a simple cut, the same as my father would wear. Black satin seemed best – a good, tight, heavy weave. It was almost nothing from start to finish. The shirt underneath was the same way. His body seemed to favor this particular fashion of shirt – one with a broad opening, trimmed over with flounce and lace with an abundance of both at the cuffs and at the breast where the shirt would tie together. Not to murder his sense of masculinity, of course, but I have seen his portraits and something gentler for him seemed appropriate.

Temporarily, I thought to sew breeches for him as well – only I found it quite impossible to deal with. A fairly recent debacle concerning lions suffocating in their dens destroyed any hope I might have had of being able to approach the idea with a straight face and a voice quieted of giggling. I refused to even consider the use of leather, and the notion of him in tights or some other manner of leggings was my immediate undoing. He will have to find his own pair of trousers to wear with the suit – I submit to failing him in that regard. I hope I may be forgiven.

But by the time I began work on the coat itself, my progress had slowed. It was cut and the pieces already embroidered…but it didn’t appeal to me. Nothing was hanging right on the dress form, and no matter what I did the wretched garment looked nothing short of irredeemably pitiful. My courage in this venture wasn’t long in deteriorating, and when I took pause to wonder why I had begun in this first place…it was to my swift and sudden horror that I failed to find an answer…and without an answer as to why…I found myself lost for the first time.

When I at last steeled myself to finish the coat, I sat back wrapped in a blanket, looking at it exhaustedly with no hope of comprehension. At first, I believed I was making it for him as a show of thanks. He’s been kind to me – impossibly brutish, as always where his attentions were most concerned, but kind. But even as I held on to that, something inside me questioned it. I had never known such hurtful confusion before – or at times, such paralyzing fright. He himself doesn’t frighten me – he never has. But what he stirred in me…that he chose me…that he might have such regard for me…such a fearful part of me wanted to wail and brand him a liar. It seemed easiest, and less painful than the alternative…

…And yet…yet at the same time…I wished to have the courage to perhaps believe.

Often, he was the one who claimed that it was my light that graced him…that I had salvaged him from the darkness. But now I see that it was his hand that brought me back from the brink to which I had so carelessly strayed. At the height of my crisis, he was the one that stayed me, willing to cope and console and sit with me throughout the hours as I struggled with a past I could hardly remember and a future that was but a blank sheet of paper. Whatever opinion I had had of him before…it is no more, and the only regret I have is that it took me so long to realize what I love about him. I love that he was persistent in his pursuit – without it, surely I would have faded. I love that he was sincere with me – a quality I had never seen before in any that have come to pay suit. I love that he allowed me time and space to approach him on my own, rather than force himself upon me or use lies or tricks to win me – his gentleness in this was most uncommon, and therefore, beautiful. But most of all, what I found I loved about him was his own willingness to love me in spite of where my future will take me. He is immortal as I am not, and for all of my worries about the complications of such a union…he sees none of it. He sees now…and now is what I wish to have with him...

I will satisfy my need for bravery in this…as long as it is for him.

Yeah...that about sums it up... ;P

...And for the record...if me or Cossette EVER DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS AGAIN...SHOOT US...PLEASE... :faint:

Cleaned, Colored, and P'WND in MS Paint, you fiends! :painter:

SO amazing. The writing and the artwork, as usual are beautiful. But the art especially this time, shows some damn near painstaking work.

BRAVO!

Cossette: (settling down) "No, no...it was fine...truly. The tree was an older oak and he knows well my fondness for...mature wood." :giggle:

Oh, I swear...you've taken such a one-eighty in the last couple of days...I'm not sure I know who you are anymore! :ohmygod:

Cossette: (smiling, beaming) "I am betrothed, and I am thrilled -- what could possibly be so upseting about that?" :aww:

Okay, call it a shock to the system -- I'm not used to you being so...so...uh... :O_o:

Cossette: "Pleased?" :D

Yeah, I guess that works...

Cossette: (slyly, sneaking her hand into his) "Well, it is as they say...the French are known for creating double meanings of even the most basic words..." ;P

Oh, brother...oh! By the way...have you told Lillith yet that you two are going to get hitched...? :?

Cossette: "No, not as of yet...I haven't seen her about, actually...why do you ask?" :O_o:

Oh, just checking...

Cossette: (laughing brightly) "My chasity is still intact, Mistress Destiny -- you do have my word on that..." (shifting her eyes to Mael) "...Such as it is in its current state..." ;P

WHAT!!? :omg:

Cossette: (settling again) "But seriously, now...Lillith is entertaining? Is it still Alaestor?" :?

Nope. Alaestor is finished.

Cossette: "Finished? Oh, I certainly hope she didn't kill the poor boy..." :worry:

Uh...came close though...he couldn't keep up with her without using magic to compensate, so... ^^;

Cossette: (sagging) "Oh, that girl...I don't care if she's nearly a hundred and fifty years old...! She should know better...!" :ohmygod:

Yeah...kind of like someone else I could spit on from here... :unimpressed:

*glares at the two of them*
